Statement of Web Accessibility

Making the internet accessible to the widest range of visitors is a primary goal of Bushsong Web Design as we develop code and graphics for web site projects.

The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) consists of a set of guidelines issued by the World Wide Consortium (W3C) to assist webmasters and designers in developing web sites that are more accessible to people with disabilities. This is important for permanent conditions including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, or neurological disabilities, and temporary situations such as a broken arm, or gradual changes such as the affects of aging.

Compliance with these guidelines involves adding considerable code changes and involves presenting pages in a different manner to the traditional styles. Balance needs to be achieved in presenting pages which are usable by all, or at least the majority of visitors, and yet affordable for our clients.

Methods for verification of compliance are not fully developed. To date, automatic validation via online software has been the most practical option for developers. Unfortunately, these validators do not perform the total range of checks and require a number of manual checks of every page in addition to online validation. Even after completing these checks, the determination of compliance is a subjective decision made by the webmaster and is not verifiable by an independent authority.

For practical reasons, the added cost for manual checks would be intolerable for our clients, so the webmasters for this site assert that this site meets the requirements for automated validation at the highest level of accessibility, Triple A. This may be independently verified by following the link to an automated validation service (which will open in a separate window) endorsed and recommended by W3C:   "Cynthia Says".
